Wild unglued by penalties, blow two-goal lead and lose in OT to Lightning — White Bear Lake Sports news

The Minnesota Wild got off to a hot start Saturday night, but it didn’t last. They blew a two-goal lead in the third period, and the Tampa Bay Lightning won 4-3 in overtime at Grand Casino Arena to end the Wild’s three-game win streak. Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov scored the winner on a 4-on-3 power play for the Lightning after Matt Boldy was penalized for tripping Kucherov. That was the Lightning’s third power play goal of the game. Blake Coleman scored only 55 seconds into the game for the Wild, and Max Shabanov made it 2-0 with a power-play goal two minutes later. Shabanov later added a highlight-reel goal in the third period to put the Wild up 3-1. Advertisement But Tampa Bay rallied from there. Woodbury’s Jake Guentzel, who scored on a four-minute power play in the second period, tallied his second goal of the game, before the Lightning tied it on a 6-on-4 power play blast by Charle-Edouard D’Astous with his team playing with an empty net. Kirill Kaprizov , Quinn Hughes and Joel Eriksson Ek pushed their point streaks to eight games with assists. Calvin Pickard made 30 saves in his home debut, and the Wild dropped to 5-0-2 at home. But they remain second in the league at 12-3-4 and have picked up points in eight consecutive games. Read more below for highlights and analysis from Wild reporter Sarah McLellan.
